Meet Abbie

Abbie Papka is an accomplished professional rider and trainer. She has focused most of her career developing young horses from day one to success in the show ring. After raising many homebreds and focusing on personal development in the jumper ring, Abbie is transitioning to welcoming a small number of goal-oriented riders to join her training program with their horses.

Open to any challenge, Abbie works well with young horses and more sensitive or challenging horses. She brought her current mount, Elevage Shangai, from his 5 yo year to success in regional Grand Prixes.

Abbie takes a keen interest in both horse and sports psychology. She recognizes continuous learning as the best approach to success with individual horses and riders. She is first and foremost a student of the horse.

1. Seek Lightness & Sensitivity

Honor the horse's nature. Horses thrive on clear communication and appreciate subtlety.

2. Trust Before Performance

Prioritize trust and confidence. A willing, confident horse will always learn more than one who is fearful or uncertain.

3. "If it's not working, you're either asking the wrong question, or you're asking the question wrong."

-Warwick Schiller

4. Lead with Patience

There is only room for patience and humility.

5. Build the Blocks First

Build understanding from ground zero. Return to the foundation whenever you face resistance or introduce something new.

6. Reward Every Try

Recognize and reinforce every honest effort. Progress grows from confidence.

7. Assume Good Intentions

Believe in the good intentions of both horses and people.

8. Ride with Purpose

Ride with positive intention. Horses learn through clear repetition, not abrasive reactions or louder questions.

9. Enjoy the Journey

The best way to improve is to find joy in the process.

10. Add More Leg

Forward creates clarity. When in doubt... add more leg.
